Hi, I'm Bryan.
What I’ve Done
I started my career at Bank of America working in small business and franchise lending, helping owners navigate SBA and conventional loan programs. From there I moved into leadership roles at Huntington National Bank — one of the top SBA lenders in the country — where I led franchise specialty banking and national account development across the western U.S.
For the past four years I’ve been at Northwest Bank, leading business banking and regional commercial banking teams across a four-state footprint before stepping into my current role overseeing Small Business Banking — including production, underwriting, portfolio management, and over 150 retail branches.
Along the way I earned my MBA from The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business, with a focus on corporate finance, leadership, and strategy.
I know what it looks like when a small business is ready to grow. I also know what it looks like when one is quietly heading toward trouble — and what it takes to course correct.
Who This Blog Is For
This is for the small business owner who:
• Wants to understand how banks actually think about their business
• Is trying to access capital and doesn’t know where to start
• Has ever felt confused, dismissed, or overwhelmed in a conversation with a lender
• Is making big decisions with imperfect information and real consequences
• Just wants practical, honest advice from someone who has seen it all
You don’t need another generic business blog. You need someone who has spent decades on the other side of the table — and wants to help you win.
My Approach
I believe in practical over theoretical. Clear over complicated. And honest over polished.
I lead with questions before I lead with answers. The best advice I can give starts with understanding your specific situation — not applying a one-size-fits-all framework.
I’m not here to sell you a program or a package. I’m here to write things that are genuinely useful — the kind of straight talk I’d give a close friend who just bought their first business or is staring down a difficult financial decision.
A Little More About Me
I grew up competing — four years as a varsity football player at Kenyon College, where I studied history and learned that understanding context is everything. That same mindset carried into banking: the best decisions come from understanding the full picture, not just the numbers on a page.
I’m based in the Columbus, Ohio area, which I think is one of the best places in the country to run a small business. I’m proud to work in this community and invest in the people building things here.
Let's Connect
If something I’ve written resonates with you — or if you’re facing a challenge and want a fresh perspective — I’d love to hear from you.
